Deptford has seen one of South East London’s biggest restoration projects over the past 2 years. The Grade II listed Victorian Arches beneath the station have been transformed into Deptford Market Yard - a centre for community events, creativity and independent businesses. In one of the 14 arches you’ll find a unique shop space to rent with a stockroom and kitchenette at the back.
Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays are busiest here between 11am and 4pm when one of London’s oldest street markets sets up on the high street next to the station. Antique hunters and thrifty shoppers head here to rifle through the Bric a Brac market on Douglas Way and locals stock up on fresh fruit and veg. Events in the area range from pop-up art exhibitions to supper clubs and design fairs, so Deptford is never short of visitors in the evenings or throughout the weekends.
Beneath the arches either side, there’s the coffee shop, Mouse Tail, and a hot dog and ice cream cafe called Popdogs. Other businesses within the Market Yard include the infamous Little Nan’s cocktail bar, Mama’s Jerk, an apparel shop called Plain Bear, as well as an artisan florists. The local favourite Job Centre Pub, a cool conversion paying tribute to the building's history, sits opposite the yard on the high street.
The majority of businesses in Deptford Market Yard are closed on Mondays so it may be a little quieter then, but Mouse Tail Coffee Stories next door is open then and has a regular customer base.
